Accessibility at the Library

A tool created by the National Council on the Aging (NCOA), for locating government programs for seniors.  Fill out a form and BenefitsCheckUp responds with information on the programs in which you may be eligible for, along with application instructions. You are not required to submit personal information such as name or social security number.

Flu-Busters Flu Clinics by the Visiting Nurses Association
The Visiting Nurses Association is sponsoring flu shot clinics throughout the area. Flu shots are covered by Medicare Plan B, so they are no charge for seniors (normally $15).  A schedule of clinic times and lcoations can be found at http://www.vna.org//myh_pubWalkClinic.aspx.

When available, "free" flu shots are administered according to the CDC priority list. Persons age 65 and older are at the top of the list.

Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority

Oakland County Health Department -- Services to the Aging
Offers home visits and telephone counseling to evaluate the nursing and social needs of the elderly, as well as guides to community resources and basic dental, hearing, nutrition and medical services and information. Oakland County Senior Prescription Savings Program
The prescription savings program is free to permanent Oakland County residents age 60 and over regardless of income, without other primary prescription coverage. (The program is $14 (or $20 per family) per year if under 60.) The program allows for savings on generic and brand name medications at a national network of participating independent and chain pharmacies. AARP's Tax Aide Program
Seniors needing assistance preparing their tax returns can get help from the AARP's Tax Aide Program, which is also affiliated with the IRS' Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program. Visit the nearest AARP Tax Aide site (Bloomfield Township Senior Services ) for free tax preparation assistance and free electronic filing. The program is staffed by volunteers between February 15 and April 15 each year.

IRS -- Live Telephone Assistance
Call the toll free number at 1-800-829-1040 for live assistance and answers to your questions. Hours of Operation 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. During the tax-filing season, there is also a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday service.
